Today, brands are trying various different measures to make their product and services more sustainable. Picture Organic Clothing has tried something completely different and has recently released a ski jacket made up of recycled sugarcane.

Although it sounds odd, the jacket looks like nothing out of the ordinary! The jacket looks similar to high-end ski jackets and functions like one, too. The jacket includes a powder skirt, adjustable hood, hem and cuffs, and YKK zippers. Because of the convenient features it offers, the jacket appeals to all-mountain athletes, not just exclusively environmentally conscious ones.

The jacket uses Picture Organic’s new fabric, known as BIO, which is made from sugarcane waste. This sustainable fabric will continue through the brand’s “Expedition Line,” which makes up about 30% of the brand’s collection. The jacket features a new membrane from BenQ, known as XPORE. This membrane “emerges from the stretching process” to create nanopores. Nanotechnology is used to utilize insulation within clothing. Additionally, the chemical-free membrane is durable and breathable thanks to nanotechnology. This jacket is “two times lighter than competing laminates,” states Gear Patrol.

Picture Organic Clothing’s jacket will retail for $500 and will be available to purchase this fall. Sustainable jackets are taking over, and Picture Organic’s clothing is one like no other.
